ALSA mixer cannot be found - stuck on the commandline forever
Hi there,
I'm new to Linux and installed yesterday Slackware 10. I ran all through the installation succesful, untill I wanted to start up the GUI - after I typed 'startx' the thing started flippin' and my monitor turned black for about a minute. When I finally saw the black&white colors again (those of the command line), all i could read where errors: ALSA mixer cannot be found . blablabla blablabla . . Running as realtime process now (priority 50) ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:549(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe. and the last 2 lines repeated about 5 times more on my screen. Then, i stayed stuck at the command line forever :( I use a Pentium III 500 mhz, nVidia FX 5200 graphics card (already installed it using 'sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run') and an ESS 1969 PCI sound device. I used bare.i to boot up during installation and also installed hotplug. I'm totally new to Linux so this might be all quite stupid, however, please help me! Thanx, Pazkaw |
Try upgrading your alsamixer using slapt-get
slapt-get tutorial: here |
I just installed the update by reading the link to that tutorial you gave me, but I'm still having the same problem and got the same error over and over again :(
