ALSA installed, still no sound

I have installed alsa according to the guide on alsa-project specifically for my card, and it all went smoothly.
I have unmuted and turned all channels of importance up, but there is still no sound.
Is there any way to check if i have installed the driver correctly?
Thanks,

if you are using KDE, check if 'artsd' is working ... it is the sound daemon.

either that or the mixer settings is somehow not taking effect.

ok, i ran artsd, and got the following response.

root@HOST:~# artsd
can't register Arts::MidiManager
There are already artsd objects registered, looking if they are active...

Error: Can't add object reference (probably artsd is already running).
If you are sure it is not already running, remove the relevant files:

/tmp/mcop-root/Arts_SoundServerV2
/tmp/mcop-root/Arts_SoundServer
/tmp/mcop-root/Arts_SimpleSoundServer
/tmp/mcop-root/Arts_PlayObjectFactory
/tmp/mcop-root/Arts_AudioManager

im not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, seeing as it says that it is running, but there are errors.
thanks,

How do I run artsd? I don't see it anywhere in the K-Menu (start-menu thing).
