I have just installed MD 9.1 with an xp dual boot. anyhow when i boot up into linux i get all the way to "Starting ALSA version 0.9.0rc8:" then my pc will not go beyond this point. Please help mahalo

Can you boot into single user mode? Depending on how your boot loader works (either LILO or GRUB, you should be able to type something like "linux single" to bring the system up. Then you might be able to reconfigure ALSA so it doesn't hang.

Thanks for the help. you are talking to a total linux newbie, i mean i just installed it yesterday and this is very first time i have ever even seen it in real time. I don't have any idea how to reconfigure the ALSA if i can even get to it. but I will give it a shot and see what happens.
