All processes freezing until keypress

Hello,

I'm trying to use my old laptop as a torrent box with deluge and samba for file sharing. Before ubuntu i've tried to use fedora and fedora-server with a similar outcome. Everything is set up and working perfectly, however every couple of minutes (maybe 10-20) my ssh shell freezes. Deluge and samba stop sharing info. To resolve the problem I just have to press any key on my laptop and it starts working. The issue is not noticeable while using the laptop itself, I only notice it through ssh and deluge freezing

While using fedora-server I got this error once however I'm not sure if it's connected with this issue, because it only appeared once and it doesn't appear in ubuntu. https://imgur.com/a/laJJ8

I'm posting in linux newbie because 1) i'm a newbie 2) i don't know if it's a hardware or software problem

Thank you in advance

While I don't know if this is the exact problem, it really sounds to me like (based on what you say) your laptop is going to "sleep". Therefore pressing a key would "wake it up" from the "sleep state" it's entering.

A couple of questions:

Which Linux distribution are you currently using? (Ubuntu or Fedora?)
Which desktop environment/window manager are you using?

I'm thinking that if you could find something like "power saving settings" (or similar), you could change the appropriate setting, so it doesn't go to "sleep" on you.

You can post to this forum, no problem there.

Check to see if you have a time out setting, might be screen, might be disk.

I'm currently using ubuntu. I disabled all sleep settings, even went into /etc/systemd/logind.conf and editted the values there.

I'd say it's some power setting. One of the reasons certain laptops make poor servers.
