Thumbs up ALC650 driver installation problem

I'm trying to install the ALC650 linux sound driver with no success. Here's what I've done:

tar xfvj alc-112803.tar.bz2
cd alsa-driver-0.9.4/
make install

and it comes up with:

rm -rf /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound
make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/alsa-driver-0.9.4/support'
make -C pnp modules_install
make[2]: Entering directory `/tmp/alsa-driver-0.9.4/support/pnp'
mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/support/pnp
cp snd-pnp.o /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/support/pnp
cp: cannot stat `snd-pnp.o': No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [_modinst__] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/tmp/alsa-driver-0.9.4/support/pnp'
make[1]: *** [_modinst_pnp] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/alsa-driver-0.9.4/support'
make: *** [install-modules] Error 1
Can anyone help?
