airodump-ng not picking anything up

i checked the wireless assistant and the connections come up but when i type the command "airodump-ng rausb0"(my wireless card) no connections come up.. what am i doing wrong? i am running backtrack 3 cd image on vmware.. any help is appreciated! =)

I don't think this will work. VMWare clients get presented with
a pseudo network device which is wired, no matter what the "real
thing" in your computer is.

Can you elaborate on this one, please? I find this hard to believe.

You're saying that some part of backtrack under VM does know
about Wifi connections?
