Trying to use airodump and it keeps giving me an error that ARP linktype is set to 1 ethernet and i need it on the wlan.

Please paste the exact command you're trying to run and error you're receiving. Also be sure that you've correctly setup your wireless drivers and that airmon-ng is running for your card.
