Aggravating VMware
I hate this program, it has brought about nothing but pain and strife into my awesome running Linux box. I can't update my system, can't install new programs without a new serial code. Which never worked in the freakin first place. Well heres my story:
I found VMware through AutoMatix, installed it, got my serial code and installed win xp. After several unsuccessful tries at booting it I decided I didn't want VMware any way, yada yada, tried uninstalling through purge and checked out the web site. Nothing has worked. I'm running (so far as I can tell) VMware Console, or GSX Server. I'm still not sure. Ubuntu 7.10. If I don't figure this out soon I will probably install a new distro. Maybe OpenSuSe. Don't really want to. I have been reading a little about VirtualBox. I was wondering if it is as costly in nerves and patience as VMware? I sort of don't expect much help but anything would be greatly appreciated. I know the VMware web site and forums are nothing but a dead end. Thanks for whatever help is out there. ~tim |
I use VirtualBox on CentOS 5.1 without any particular issues. I can update that system fine. I find it a little hit and miss on the guest side, but I have a fully functioning Windows install, a few Linuz distros that seem fine, a slow (but I was warned) Solaris 10 and a half functional PC-BSD I threw on yesterday.

I'm running VMware on openSUSE 10.3 and it works fine for me. Just don't forget to run the config after installing VMware. In the terminal u should be able to just type:
Code:
vmware-config.pl |
