how do you do the shut down process? by the GUI or by command line?

The shutdown command restarts by default. You need the -h option to get a "halt." Look at shutdown --help (or poweroff --help or halt --help) for the various options.

My system specifications are Intel Pentium Dual core processor E5300, 1024 DDR2, 320GB Hard drive. Can any one help to install Red Hat Linux5 and windows server 2008 step by step.

RHEL5 contains a few propitiatory applications and is only legally available from Red Hat. If you have a legal copy, you have purchased support from Red Hat, and they will be quite willing to assist you in installing the operation system.

If, on the other hand, you don't have a legal copy, then you can obtain a copy of the CentOS system, which contains all the FOSS parts of the RHEL 5 distribution. If you need help installing a FOSS distribution, many people will be able to assist you.
