after installing fedora core 2, i select windows xp from grub and says:....

"chainloader" error loading operating system or something similar.

and then when i try installing windws xp again on top of linux is says:
error loading operating system" in the bios.

everything started when i downloaded fedora core 2 dvd.
i ran partition magic 8 and divided my 40gb hd into 20gb a piece.

everything went smooth. but when i was installing fedora core 2. it suddenly gave me this message, "cannot properly align partition" or something smiliar.

the thing is, i press IGNORE. and the installation went fine.

so when i rebooted, grub showed up and i selected wiindows xp and there the chainloader error message appeared. and since that day i cant get into windows.

is this a hard drive internal error? is it fixable? is there any tool in linux in which i can fix this problem?

please explain briefly since im new in the game.

thanks alot guys!

did you create your new partition from the start of the disk or end of disk? ie is the Linux partition located in the left or right hand side of the Windows partition in Partition Magic?

This is a commnd problem alot of Fedora Core 2 users are expeirencing. Instead of re-typing alot of information, ill throw you a few links you should take a read of.

I'm still having a few issues with it at the moment, but a lot of people seemed to have fixed the problem.

Good Luck
