After First Installation

I installed Linux Redhat 9
I still have my WinXP safe,
Now for some question
1- while installing I saw
you’re lucky number is x.x x.x x.x x, what is this number?
2- Why I cant see Linux from WindowsXP? All my drives are NTFS
I had (C,d,e,f,g) drives and WinXp is on C:
I went to control panel >> Admisitrative toos >> Computer management and deleted drive G:
Then I made an automatic insallation and it worked
But now Windows cant see G:\ or anything new??? Why?

3- this my feel stupid but where is ‘My computer’ in Linux, the place where all the drives are located…

4- I made a dual boot, on the screen where I have to choose windows or Linux I have
Redhat Linux (2.4.20-8smp)
Redhat Linux-up (2.4.20-8)
Dos

Dos in winxp.
Which one is the Linux OS and what is the other one???
Thank you.

1. got no idea what the number is
2. to see linux from windows you can use explore2fs
3. my computer is /
your home folder, kinda like ur documents is /home/your_user_name
4. not familiar with redhat, but it seems that these r just two kernels, both of them are the linux OS
you should use the default one, the one that is automatically selected after like 10 seconds

2.4.20-8smp: the smp means 'symetrical multi-processor' or similar. That means this kernel is for if you have 2 or more cpus.

btw: windows doesn't like playing with other OS's. This means that windows will not access a linux drive without a lot of help ie: samba... Never heard of explore2fs, so give that a try.

There is no 'My Computer'. Linux deals with drives in a fundamentally different way than windows. There are device files under the /dev directory, and some distros put icons on your desktop.

Did you create a regular user? You're not tooling around as root are you?

I suggest getting yourself a good newbie book for linux, as if you expect linux to act like windows then you have a large learning curve ahead of you. It's completely different.
