Advice on which or how (Dist for a particular use)

I've been running Lindows/LinSpire for a couple months now, and am at a reasonably stable point. However that's stable as in "I know what work arounds I have to use to get anything done and how to recognize when it's time to reboot the machine".

I'd like to get to stable as in "I reboot the machine every couple months on general principles, and otherwise things just work and I'm able to stay fairly current with my major apps".

For me Kino is one of the major apps, and an application that can play the vidoes I create out of Kino (currently MPlayer) is the other. Though something that would simply DVD backups would be nice too...

Given that I want to be a Linux user and not a Linux administrator, and given that I've been raised so far on Lindows/LinSpire, is there another distribution that would be simple to install and run? My machine specs (to the extent it matters) are:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+
XFX nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Video Card / 256MB DDR / AGP 8X / TV Out
512 Megs Ram
1 200 Gig internal HD (boot/OS)
3 250 Gig internal HDs (data)
2 200 Gig external HDs (firewire - data)

Capture is through a Canopus ADVC-100

A Big concern (for me) is that my network connection is through a Linksys Wireless USB 11 (v2.8) adapter - and that it will be a major problem to get that up and running again. Another concern is that I'm going to get the system up and then not understand how to do anything.

Suggestions, pointers, and advice will all be appreciated :)

Thanks,
Ewan

Try Mandrake or Redhat. They are the most user friendly imo.
