advice me on partitioning,and on modem
 

hi...
i am going to buy a new system(with an athlonXp 2000+ processor).i am thinking abt installing both linux and windows on a partition..how should i partition mey hard disk?
and abt modems,should i go for an internal or an external modem if i am going to use opera in linux?

For partitions, it's very much up to you and your harddisk size. Usually you can create partitions with fdisk or even using linux's tool partitions during a linux installation. I believe that the most used partition program and simple to use is Partition Magic 8, which is NOT free. Take a look at:

They teach more or less how to divide your Linux partition. As for modems, I don't use a modem myself anymore. Make just sure that your modem is not a winmodem. (those crap plug and play that you cannot use/modify the jumpers). Ask at the store, they would help you with that. You could always check at your favorite's Linux distribution homepage if the modem you are thinking to buy is either supported or not. In fact, you should do it with all your hardware to avoid pos-problems.

Megaman X is correct.... but may I add that external modems are mostly supported by Linux... as far as I know there are a few internal modems that is suported by Linux....

Oh and try to install Linux in the last partition.... trust me things will be alot better that way.... good luck!... :) :) :)

most lucent based winmodems will work with linux,
and you can get one for under $15. you will have to
download software to get the modem to work though.
