adsl set up in mandrake 9

i can set up the adsl connection not using the command lines you said though but through a control panel type interface which asks for the adsl username etc, as none of the commands worked.

but the mandrake still wont recognise my driver for the adsl modem, i have looked in the linux equivalent to device manager and it is listed there in the unkown but also in the ethernet card section,

my pci modem is dynamode connextant pci adsl modem.

When i get to setting up the modem i am given a list of drivers to choose from, i have chosen ones which look like it could be mine but then i get the message no ethernet card can be detected on this system (even though it shows in linux version of device manager)

i have tried to edit the pppoe.conf file but it says i dont have write privs, i cant find a way to log in as root can anyone help me please as i dont want my linux quest to end here

right, i have got the driver for my modem from a linux site that does conextant chipset drivers, it was a .rpm extension that installed fine on mandrake, but the problem is now is how to set up the connection, there is a wizard that lets you do it but near the end it asks you to choose a driver from a list (not the one installed) so it fails.

what i need to do is to set up the connection manually but the commands i have been given such as pppoeconf or netcardconfig - dchp or pppoe do not work, does anyone know how i can set up the connection manually using my driver i installed? the help file for the driver says that i can run hcfpciconfig, but again the command wont work! i would be grateful if anyone can tell me how to manually configure my adsl connection using the driver i installed.
