Question ADSL How do I get connected?

I live in Belgium and have ADSL from "Versatel". I found the correct driver for my USB-modem, installed it correctly, rebuilt my kernel and everything works fine. My ADSL line gets activated, so the hardest part of getting on the internet should be done.
But I don't have any idea how to login. Do I have to use ppp, pppoe, pppoa??? Where do I start???
I'm using Ubuntu Linux 5.04 with a (newly built) kernel version 2.6.11.

You could try pppoeconf that you can set up your username and password, then it will start a connection for you and at a command to boot time so everything gets started automatically. After that, pppoe is probably the right choice.

I'm just learning about this myself having set up my t-online account here in Germany this way two days ago.

I would read the documentation for your modem. This may be a standalone unit so you do not need to configure anything in your PC but run the DHCP client. Connection configuration could be done via telnet or web browser.
