Ha!

For as long as I can remember, I have had my mind set on having a linux powered firewall/router with NAT, so that I could use more than 1 PC with my internet connection.

I tried to get it functional as my dream firewall, but as an inexperienced linux ubernewbie, I was frustrated to say the least, with my failure to get mandrake linux 8.1 configured to use my USB ADSL Modem.

I had a crappy old PC that's not even worthy of turning on any more... Now I've found my SmoothWall solution, I have a crappy old PC that I don't want to turn off! It sits in the corner (soon to be in the loft...), humming quietly to itself!

I can now concentrate on actually using whatever OS I choose (without struggling with the wierd USB ADSL Modem issue), and progressing with linux... Which is what I wanted to do all along!

So, if it's not too boring! If YOU have a PC you could take out of retirement for use as a firewall/Internet Connection device, it's well worth the 2hours of your time!

Happy New Year!

Well furrie, i had a crappy old computer, so i decided to save up for a super duper one, this i managed to do. I have done the ropes with 98/W2K and now XP. Linux has always intriqued me, so i have decided to have another go. What you have is not really what i am after, but i have decided to jump in at the deep end and try slackware 8.0. They say this is the closed distro to unix and for beginners as well as geeks, its the best way to learn about linux. I hope they are right. . Anyway furrie, thanks for you help and i wish you a great new year to...magis
