could you type
Code:

whereis dpkg
whereis apt-get

and post the output?

My guess is, the distribution is altered, and it uses a different way to install software.
from the manual:

what do i do when ive typed that in

repo 11-04-2009 04:45 PM

copy the output here, so we can see if these are installed or not.

What do you see in the terminal?
You should see something like
Quote:

repo@cannabis:~$
in the terminal type
Code:

whereis dpkg
then press the enter key.
type
Code:

whereis apt-get
then press the enter key

What do you see in the terminal, when you open it ?
perhaps you first need to login ?

linus72 11-04-2009 05:52 PM

uhm....

I know the Poster should learn how to do all this...

but, can you just download/install a distro (debian?)
that already has flash 10??

There are many variations and distro's that come with many non-free
stuff pre-installed.

Repo is a Guru, so what he's saying is sound.
and you should learn how to do these things...

From the manual
Quote:

You can use video online to watch youtube.
Did you tried this?

When you say nothing happens. Do you mean it gives you no message or it gives you a error message? If you can please try and copy and paste what you see on the terminal here so we can better understand whats going on.

There should be some sort of GUI package manager on that system... I cant believe they would ship a Linux distro out to people without one. If this is the case, then the retail store really screwed it up. It should not be this difficult.

We will work with you and help you get it working. I'm sorry its being such a frustrating process for you.
