admin account recovery

hi

i logged into my linux system as root.i open users & groups and was looking around. i noticed that the root account has been given expiration date as no. of days =0.As i was a newbie ,i did not meddle with it.i didn't know how it got selected.so i just logged out to login into my account.
it said 'it was disabled contact system admin'.i tried root account but it said the same thing .Now i can't login into my linux .Can anybody have any suggestions to enable the root account atleast? i'll be very gratefull.

when you get to your lilo or grub prompt on boot, edit the boot command and add a "1" or "single" to it. This will log you into single user mode as root. you should then be able to run "passwd -u root" to reenable the root account, depending on how it was disabled.

if your using grub
type p is you have a password
once you have loaded the grub type e for edit
there will be a list of items choose the line that starts with the kernel
and at the end of the kernel line add single
if this did not work try putting a space before the single
press [enter] to exit
and type b to boot

if you are using lilo
press [ctrl]+[x ]
type 'linux single' without the quotes

type passwd to change the password or password root
then reboot got it?! £Ä3
