Additional NIC problem

Ok... I have a nForce2 board w/ onboard NIC (eth0 and working fine)
I have Gentoo with a recent install from 2004.3 stage 3 Kernel version 2.6.9

My second NIC i added is a 3Com 3C905C-TX, lights blink and everything on the back... I have every 3com option compiled direct into my kernel and i get the following problem when i issue

Code:

ifconfig eth1 up
Quote:

eth1: unknown interface: No such device
I know the card works... I recently had Slack 10 on the box and was using the NIC, but I just cant get the thing to be recognized  .... oh lspci says this about the nic:

Quote:

0000:01:06.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev78)

any help would be great! Thx

funny, i have exactly the same problem and the same NIC but im pretty sure my problem is due to my shitty "kernel updating skills":)
it says (even if i selected the 3c905 directly in to the kernel) "module 3c905 not found"

i know it didn't help much but at least at bumped your post ;)

I have had similar problems with eth0 on my nforce 2 motherboard as well though I am running Fedora Core 2 in KDE

Have you tried adding a new ethernet device and activating it through

K menu > System Tools > Internet Configuration Wizard ?

That didn't actually work for me though. I installed a second time and found an option that switched it on. My kernel was 2.6.5-1.358 which is earller than yours so support should be possible.

Sorry I can't help you anymore than that.....
