Adding to $PATH

Hey guys. I've tried to follow your suggestions of how to permanently add a directory to the root (super) user $PATH. I have Suse 9.1, using bash. I have added the line:
export PATH=$PATH:/home/stuff/blast
to the file: /etc/profile , but that still didn't add the desired directory to $PATH. I will be grateful for any hint!

It's possible that you added that command to the beginning of the file? In suse 9.0 anyway, there is a section about 100 lines into the file where PATH is exported. You might add your new path to the list of paths there:
for dir in /var/lib/dosemu \
/usr/games \
/opt/bin \
/opt/gnome/bin \
/opt/kde3/bin \
/opt/kde2/bin \
/opt/kde/bin \
/usr/openwin/bin \
/opt/cross/bin \

If that doesn't work, try adding the export command to /root/.bash_profile
