adding programs to redhat 9 menu?

I am having a funny problem. When i install new programs on my Redhat 9 system(Gnome Desktop) it will not allow me to add a new launcher to my start menu( or redhat menu, whatever its called) I have tried right clicking the menu and even opening the folder and copying launchers from the desktop but i just get the error message " cannot save menu item to disk Details: Error writing file' applications: /Multimedia/GMplayer. Desktop:' Unsupported operation"
I have chmoded the folder and even tried as root but still same message. Is there any was to add programs to this menu? I am using Gnome. I can do it in KDE but not in Gnome???
Anyone have this problem?
Thanks

umm have you tried doing it manually? like opening the .gnome file and looking for the menu file, then mimicing the other similar commands and editing it to open what you want if you cant find a GUI editor? That seems like a good idea to me ill go check if its possible ...

tough luck.. i checked all over the 4 gnome folders... .gnome .gnome 2 gnome 2 private and .gnome-desktop but cou ldnt find a menu file... maybe its not in your user section... i dont use gnome but i know theres gotta be a file for the menu SOMEWHERe... maybe a search for " gnome menu " in your files? im sorry man but i was pretty sure there was a menu file in there like ther is for blackbox.. [which is what i normally use..]
