Adding new users

While trying to add a new user to my sys. I had mult. problems. Signed onto KDE as root tried to open KUSER got 2 messages "error opening /ect/ppasswd" for reading and "error opening /ect/ypgroup for reading" So i figured no problem I'll post a question here and work on that later and add a user at the terminal in the meantime. Used useradd command created a user and password and all appeared to be right with the world. But nooooo when the new user tried to sign in to KDE the following message appeared during startup "There was some error setting up inter-process communications by KDE. The message returned by the system was: could not read network connection list. Please check that the dcopserver is running" What is dcopserver and how can I make it run? this machine has a network card in it but it's not plugged in and this doesn't effect other users.

Figured it out myself

Kuser doesn't work. SuSE knew this when they shipped it. Use yast (unique to SuSE) to enter users. trying to add users with the useradd command is what caused the second problem.

DCOP message when logging in RH 7.1

Hi,

I am recieving the same message when I attempt to log into a RH7.1 box (only on 1 out of 3 though) using an X emulator (Reflection in my case). I get the message:

could not read network connection list /home/bduff/.DCOPserver_hostname_ip

it also says to check that the DCOPserver is running.

any suggestions??

Thanks

Bob

I had a simular problem a while back when I upgraded KDE. I had to install a fam*.rpm and that seemed to fix it. I don't remeber the exact name of the package, I found it on rpmfind.net.
