adding mozilla to repositories
 

how can I add mozilla seamonkey to my source list ?? Is that a good or bad idea??

Hi Ron,
You don't add applications to sources.list You add repositories. So you need to know if anyone is maintain packages for seamonkey and if so, for which distributions. The seamonkey site
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
indicates that only Fedora rpm's are being maintained at the moment. You don't indicate what distro you're using (you may want to fix that) so I have no idea if that is useful or not. Otherwise just download the installer. No big deal. I don't see any harm in getting seamonkey from a repository if one existed. You'd probably have to wait a bit longer for updates than if you got it directly from the site.

Thanks . I was hoping I could add Mozilla to my repository list to get away from manual install, which Istill find longwinded and I am very easily confused these days. I shall have concentrate more with my reading how..

Hi Ron,
Still shy about saying what distro you're using? Anyway, most mozilla stuff is already on one repos or another. The big "sellers" Firefox (aka Iceweasel) and Tunderbird certainly are. This is the world of "free" (as in speech) software so if you go on one of the forums from your distro maybe you can (a) find out that it is on one of your repos or (b) convince someone to become a package maintainer for seamonkey.

Personally I find it's faster to install Mozilla stuff directly. It's already binary so I (a) download it (b) untar it and (c) move it to my /opt folder.

Finally, as I said, if you're using fedora, then there are already packages for you.
