Adding DVD based Repositories to Kubuntu 12.04

Hello, Both Muon and Synaptic report that they unable to mount DVD's to /media/cdrom/.
The folder does not exist and although I can create one I cannot write a mount point in fstab. I suspect that Kubuntu requires me to create a symlink in udev.

I would appreciate any guidance

Mick

Hello craigevil.
Thanks for the info, I had tried the apt route and although apt-cdrom adds the repositories I am unable to then load a package as the directory /media/cdrom/ is being reported (by Synaptic) as "not able to open". Either I'm being thick or the udev rules need modification.

I understand the point you make re asking smart questions but I have spent a week searching and to date I am still unable to get a correct understanding of udev rules and their relationship to linking, mounting and accessing dvd's. Hence my e-mail to a Newbee forum !!

Thanks again
