Adding Backgrounds to /usr/share/backgrouns ubuntu 10.10 64bit

Hi! I need some help on this. I just decided to add some backgrounds system wide and I can't figure out how to get them to appear in System>preference>Appearance. I added the new backgrounds to /usr/share/backgrounds owned by root:root with rw r r permissions. What else do I have to do. I've google this but no luck.

Thanks

Oh yea I am using gnome desktop

Right click on the background and select "Change Desktop Background". When you see the dialog, press the "Add..." button and navigate to the files you want to add.

I think it is stupid to have to do this, but it seems to be the only way to achieve the desired result.

so by putting it in /usr/share/backgrounds with permissions rw-r--r-- is all I have to do and just instruct every other user who uses my system to add it by going into the /usr/share/backgrounds directory? Thats kinda silly but I guess I'll keep working for a fix then.

It is extremely silly, and I have never seen such a brain damaged system before. However, this isn't the first time Ubuntu has gotten something wrong.

On the other hand, if you figure out a better solution, please post it here.

Yea it seems like after ubuntu 9.10 they started going backward lol. But if I find a solution I will post it.
