Adding a group.

I am trying to add a new group so that I can install DBUS. I do the following:

Quote:
groupadd -g 18 messagebus &&
useradd -c "D-BUS Message Daemon User" -d /dev/null \
-u 18 -g messagebus -s /bin/false messagebus
But I am told that:
groupadd: gid 18 is not unique

Is this a problem?
If so what number should I use?
How can I view already added groups on my machine?

Thanks

HarryBoy
