Question Add Path for a KDE Konsole session

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to linux but have tried several different distros. Adding a path, in this case /sbin to all users has never before been a problem. However, now I can't get it to work and I have to type /sbin/ in front of most commands. It is slowly driving me mad!

This is what I've done but nothing has changed. I've open .bash_profile in vi from my home directory. Below is how the "User specific environments" were before and after i added "/sbin".

before-
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin

after-
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin

I'm using KDE 3.2 on Fedora Core 2. The shell i'm using is Konsole.

If there's more information you need to help me please ask.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

try do it in $HOME/.bashrc. The bash_profile gets read only once at login but not when you open a console window.

I tried adding the path to .bashrc but it didn't work. However, I didn't realise that .bash_profile was only read once when you login and therefore isn't re-read when you started a terminal session in X. I made changes as before to .bash_profile, logged out of KDE and logged back in again AND IT WORKED!

Thank you for your help.

Mike
