Adb-usb tethering problems

HI all, I'm messing around with an old HTC kingdom -pentesting, i guess you could call it- and I've been trying different methods of cracking/bypassing the lockscreen password via ADB. I know about the password.key/settings.db, deleting them or brute forcing the password after the password_salt/hashcat method, or pushing an app/file to the phone... but what if ADB is unable to connect to the device? It seems that ADB doesnt work if USB tethering is enabled when connected...and lets say that it jumps into that mode by default without asking, and because of the screen lock makes it impossible to change the settings from the phone side. Is there any ADB commands that would either change the usb connection mode to "charge only" or force a connection regardless of the default phone action?

sorry, but regardless of your intentions such topics have been deemed inappropriate on LQ. See the rules, the 4th dot point from the bottom in particular.
