Adaptec scsi card 29160


I am needing to intall a adaptec scsi card 29160 in my Debian 3.1. Does anyone know where i can get a driver for this card the manufacturer does not list debian?

This card is supported with the 2.6 kernel as module AIC-79xx or you can compile it in, if you are going to boot from it then you need to compile it in.

I'm not sure if the 2.4 kernel has the AIC-79xx if not there is source code you can download from adaptec that will build the module on 2.4.

lsmod
if it is listed then it is loaded

otherwise type:
modprobe AIC-79xx

Ok, So it is not installed on my system. Any good website that can help me compile it?

All I did was install the card and boot
Once I had a good boot and everything seemed to be working i shutdown again and pluged that backup tape drive into the card. Booted and ran a backup. Not sure if I really needed to do the steps I did but it worked.
