It's been a while since I've been configuring.
Let's start with you wireless.
Don't know if Debian comes with Atheros drivers if your laptop even has Atheros chip for wireless.
Paste output of:
lspci | grep -i Ethernet

Hi kiruja,

wellcome to LQ. I don't have any experience with Debian but with Slackware as well as Gentoo if you're running hald you'll have to copy the fdi-file for the "synaptics-touchpad" from /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10-osvendor to /etc/hal/fdi/policy and make the appropriate changes. fdi-files are in xml-format and selfexplaining.
