Activated thunderbird on Mint9 and now clamav will not update
 

Updating signatures on clamav (clamtk or clamfresh) was fine until I used thunderbird on Mint9, in Mint9 and only distro on that drive, now clamav will not update. I set the anti-malware to the native clamav in thunderbird but Mint9 uses clamav 96.5 and thunderbird seems to want version 97.3, even though the thunderbird option is on the Mint9 standard options but not activated till now.
If I activated another repositary on Mint9 to get a later version of clamav, then deactivated it would I still get updates?
Should I download emails on Debian6 using Evolution but Debian6 seems to use clamav 97.2?

Enriqueta's post is spot on to solve this or, at least, it worked for me. If it helps 'ppa' means 'published packages'.
