Acroread

I tried to install Adobe Acroread without success. I ran my ./INSTALL, accepted the licensing agreement, accepted the default directory, /usr/local/Acrobat4, then got the messages "installing platform independent files . . . done"
"Installing platform dependent files . . . done"
./INSTALL: ed: command not found
Error installing /usr/local/Acrobat4/bin/Acroread

Never mind. I found out I had to install "ed."

I am having a little bit of trouble getting acrobat reader to work to but I have a newer version and this is what happens for me
This installation requires 25MB of free disk space.

Enter installation directory for Acrobat 5.0.5 [/usr/local/Acrobat5]

Installing platform independent files ...
Done

Installing platform dependent files ... Done

thats it, so you would think that it is done and everything went fine, but I cannot figure out how to get acrobat reader to open I have typed acrobat, Acrobat, reader, adobe, Adobe, none of which work, can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, I have looked in the README file and that was no help, well thanks for any help

I think you need to type "acroread" to get this to fire up, if my memory serves me right.

riddlebox80 12-26-2002 04:14 PM

I have typed that also and nothing just an error telling there is no such command

Darkstar 12-26-2002 04:31 PM

Did you try going to the directory and typing ./acroread?

Add /usr/local/Acrobat5/bin to your path or
put a symlink in /usr/local/bin [...or any /bin on your path] ...ln -s /usr/local/Acrobat5/bin/acroread /usr/local/bin

riddlebox80 12-27-2002 09:47 AM

I will try that today thanks, also one more question, the .pdf's I use are password protected, and the other readers included in linux will not open them at all, will acrobat open them?
