ACPI and sound issues w/ SuSE 9.1 and Dell 300m laptop

I have a Dell Inspiron 300m laptop and have just addes SuSE 9.1 and am having a few problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. I have followed the instructions per the Admin. Guide to enable ACPI on my machine by installing a custom DSDT table, but though I can now see the battery icon when in battery mode, it always shows 1% charged and gives no indication when it will run out of power.

2. The sound doesn't work properly, though it does "work." The problem is that I can't change the volume and it's always VERY loud. Even if I mute it in KMix, KAMix etc., still is same volume.

3. Is there a way to add a second, external monitor, without having to reconfigure it every time I dock it?

4. How can I word process in Japanese?

Thank you,
ke

Is this an ATI IXP chipset? Try running alsamixer and editing the sound levels through that.
