acer laptop freezes when downloading from internet

i have an acer laptop dual booting windows and linux (suse 10.1). However whenever i'm downloading software from the internet the computer will freeze and i'll have to reset it to get it working again. It does not seem to make a difference whether i'm using Kget via konquerer or using firefox. Should i reinstall the system again. thanks.

Quick suggestions: how full is your Linux partition? Do you have enough space available to hold whatever you are trying to dowload? Are you sure it's not a time out problem?

hi. i have 15 gigs for the linux partition and have used on 3.5gigs i dont think it's a time out problem 'cos i managed to download the live cd directly from suse home (i.e no P2P) and that was well over 2gig. The software i'm downloading is only 150000kb (about 10 min on my broadband).
