Please can anyone help me I bought the Netbook for my husband for christmas I also bought him a 3 mobile internet dongle. I could not get this to work so telephoned their helpline and they told me its not compatible with Linux. When I bought it I told them it was for a newbook and they said it works on them all. Anyway can anyone help me as to how I can get mobile internet on the system. Thank you

It looks like someone overseas has got this to work with an Eee PC with Linux on it. If you've already opened it then keep searching but it may take some configuration effort and patience to get it working. Could be easier to return it, depending on your thoughts toward it!
Here's the link to someone else getting it working: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?pid=24043 Does it bring up a prompt when you plug it in, or does it plain not recognise it? |

You've just gotten two of the classic responses: From the salesperson: "It works on all computers" Translation: Well, all computers run Windows, don't they?? From the helpdesk: "It does not support Linux" Translation: "That's what my script says--I have no clue what Linux is---I don't even know what an operating system is." When the Acer Aspire One appeared at Circuit City, I had an illuminating dialog with a salesperson. She claimed that "most printers do not work with Linux." I politely explained that in fact most printers DO work with Linux. I for one would really like to see the outcome of this--I want the get this mobile service. Can we somehow find out what is the chipset? |

Maybe this will help: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/printthread.php?t=21726 The 3G cards do work in Linux and are relatively easy to setup, in Ubuntu 8.10 anyway.
