Accidentally Upgrade to Ubuntu Development Branch

Help someone. I inadvertently upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 developmental while trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04.1. Can anyone can in downgrading back to a stable release without having to reformat everything?

Rajinkajun,

I'm afraid down-grading between releases is really quite awkward to do without breaking things.

From an Ubuntu 10.04 system there should be no reason to "upgrade" to 10.04.1 as simply applying the normal updates will result in a 10.04.1 system anyway.

Personally, if you are not experiencing any particular issues with the 10.10 dev. release, I would stick with it. 10.10 will be released soon anyway. If you are not experiencing any issues, perhaps avoiding updates for the time being would be best. ;)

I don't think you understand Ubuntu development. 90% of all bugs occur a week before and a week after release, when they add last minute changes.

So Rajinkajun should avoid updating until 2 weeks after the official release of 10.10 then? :p

(BTW, yes, I do understand the Ubuntu release process.)

Thank you Thymox and Bratmon for your expertise. It is greatly appreciated. I am having issues with the development edition of 10.10 so unfortunately I'm faced with backing up my pertinent files and reformatting. I heard from a Linux admin for HostGator and he advised me to modify my grub boot loader to load the previous installation if it is still available. I'll try that before I reformat because I'm having issues SSHing into my Linbox from both LAN and WAN connections :( I can't even connect to my Samba shares :'( I'll let you both know what happens but I fear that I may be in for a clean reformat as opposed to a nasty downgrade.
