You have to recompile the kernel to enable ntfs capability. Enable ntfs in kernel filesystem. Write mode is not recomended, so better choose only-read.

Many recent distros have already taken care of the NTFS module, it should be jsut a case of mounting the NTFS partition (read only, of course).

My error, you have RedHat. Try the link referenced above.

If you follow the instructions in godzuki's post you don't have to recompile the kernel

I am agree with you, but if you recompile the kernel, you can take care of select others filesystems (VFAT,etc) as module, so you can load if you need. RedHat don't support many filesystem when you install it.Don't be afraid to recompile the kernel. It is easy

Easy but unnecessary if he only wants NTFS access which just needs to be modprobed in RH8.

Wink

It depends on what you select when install Red Hat (server, work station laptop). In my particular case, it was disable (laptop). But if he doesn't want to recompile kernel,of course he can skip. I am newbie in the forum, but I know Linux. I also like to have a custom kernel which those things I need or maybe I will need. I have recompile different Kernels more then 25 times. It is so easy that my grandmother can do . But it have no sense to discuss our preferences, so for me this subjet is die.
