Accessing Networked Windows Files

In the Windows partitions on another computer on my plain vanilla network of two PCs, there are a lot of files such as documents and songs that I would like to access. But I have <laughs at myself> absolutely no idea on how to access networked Windows computers!!

I've heard that there's something called SAMBA that you can use for this purpose. I don't know where to find it or download it, let alone figure out how to get it working.

Could anyone please please please pretty please advise me on this? I'd be really very grateful.

Smile Re: Accessing Networked Windows Files

Well ... I googled for Samba and up popped a number of good links including http://samba.org/ and a nice site on dancing :-)

You do not say what distro you are using but it almost certainly includes Samba. Look at the installation network options. Running this command will help:
whereis samba

Also take a look at Putty and iXplorer which will allow you to access your Linux box from Windows using ssh.

Do the basic research, install Samba if you do not have it and come back with more specific questions and more detailed information.
