I have jus installed Linux9.0 on my machine. But I really dont know how do I access Internet now. I have intalled Modem/ and then activated it . But after that what should be the next step ? I tried to open site but it doesnt work..
m i missing somthing.. or do I hav to make some settings in Mozilla...?

oh .. by the way I have dlink Internal Modem...

Also, Is Activating a modem means dialing up. I am using MTNL connection with 24880000 number. (If it helps...)

I have tried googling.. but I guess it wasnt enough. Then my friend suggected me this forum.

what tool are u using to dial ur internet connection?

try kppp it is quite easy and the package is their in ur CD.

anf if u are connected and unable to browse then post the contents of the file
/etc/resolv.conf
and O/P of
route -n

I tried using kppp. It said cannot findmodem. Now, as I told earlier, I have an internal modem. my friends told me. the ol=nly solution is to but an external modem because configuring internal modem would be very diff.
I won mind spending my sunday on this job... can u plz guide me .. ??

btw ..
/etc/resolv.conf file is empty .. it doesnt have ne thing...
and O/P of route -n ... it didn work on red hat linux9.0i tried netstat --route -n whch gave me 2 entries... (u wan me to put tht here ?? )

You have to be more specific.

Also, most internal modems are WinModems,... not true modems at all. External serial modems are usually true modems with digital signal processors. they are the best bet for configuration under Linux... really nothing needs to be done with them other than to point the dialing app to the correct serial port.

ispci...this command also doesnt work on linux 9.0.

I think I have mentioned it before, I have Red Hat Linux 9.0 and a D-Link Internal Modem.

Is there no way to configure an internal modem on Linux ??

it is lspci not ispci

its "L" without caps

and i wanted to now which chipset do u have
dlink has all types of internel modems with different chipsets
