access to the gpsone on usb727.

I have used several inux distros over the last fewyears having been totally put-off windows. I have installed both to the hard drive and on usb flash the puppy for the acer one. I am very impressed! have found only minor issues most of which I have found sources to solve. GPS still remains a bugbear for me though. I have tried a regular gps dongle on a couple of distros and then distovered that the nvatel usb 727 from verizon is actually gpsone equiped (naturally verizon do not offer software for it -part of their lockout policy one presumes) Has anyone had any luck getting this gpsone to work?? and if so with what software? I have tried gpsd and gpsbabel but both have a missing dependancy.
Thanks for your time,
