access shared windows folder from redhat


Hi,

when i try to access shared windows folder from redhat with the command smb://destinationip/sharedfolder or smbclient://destinationip/sharedfolder i get error as connection timed out in linux but when i try to ping the windows machine from linux iam getting reply from windows machine. i had kept windows firewall off in xp but it is not working so how to transfer files from redhat enterprise version 5 to windows xp please guide me

Try doing it from the XP machine, instead of from RH.
Also, look into Filezilla to do ftp or sftp.

When using SMB to connect to another machine, you use the machine's windows name not the IP.

smb://workgroup/computer_name/shared_folder also check your security settings on the server. Your client might not be passing the correct info.

What version of redhat? I don't have a ton of experience in windows shares on Linux, but all of mine use CIFS to mount it on the Linux side.
