access rights using proftp


when in ftp into the linux box i have no rights to add or remove files in the http files are located. how do i make it so that i can get this user to be able to add and remove files. right now the owner of the files are root. help

Hmmm... not sure I understand the problem, but maybe you need to...

chown -R username.groupname /path/to/the/files

This will change the ownership of the files to whatever username and groupname you specify. So when the user logs into the server as "username" they should be able to manipulate the files. This also assumes such things are allowed in your config file.

If things aren't working out, try posting your config file. It's probably found in... /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf Of course remove all the comments so you're left with just the important stuff. That's about all I can think of without seeing the config file.
