Access External HHD on Linux

Hello all,
I'm using backtrack R2 since the beginning of this week.
When I'm trying to access an External Hard Disk Drive, the system ask me to enter my password, I do enter the password and the window show me a blank page in the HDD area. When I refresh, it ask again for my password.

Any help would be great please.

Thanks a lot for your reply, but I do find the issue.
Tha fact is that I must force a mount of the external HDD before it can be accessible. I thought that is was because windows didn't release the filesystems on the drive, and also also it can't be mounted on a non-root account while me I was working with a non-root user account.
Thanks a lot.
