access a remote site and end the session

Very new and have a question:

Select the correct command syntax to access a remote site in order to transfer files and end the session (look this up)
a) $ ftp hostname ftp > exit
b) $ ftp ftp > exit
c) $ ftp hostname ftp > bye

Not sure how to do this; any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

First of all, please read the LQ Rules

Do not expect LQ members to do your homework - you will learn much more by doing it yourself.
And this looks like a homework assignment. Just try the commands out for yourself, see what they do and make your choice. That's the easiest way and you'll learn a lot more from it.

Kind regards,

Eric

..or read the man page first, then try the one that you thought was going to work and, if it doesn't, re-read the man page.

If, of course, you come to the point where you think 'I thought this was going to work and I still can't see why it doesn't', getting other opinions is well worth doing.
