"Absolute" starts to load but then freezes

I have a distribution of Absolute Linux (slackware). It is installed on an HP Pavilion 8705 alongside Windows Me. Using Lilo to boot. Linux begins to load, but about halfway through, this shows up:
PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:0a.0 (0094->0097)
PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 0000:00:0a.0

Then everything stops. I can't input anything or otherwise interact with my system other than hitting the power switch. I have a feeling it has to do with a PCI slot, but I don't know the cause or solution to the problem. Any advice?a

Well, if you have that feeling, it may be worthwhile removing any PCI cards that are not strictly required, just to see whether you are right.

boot, load
