I have installed wine from rpm and ran winesetuptk but if i try to emulate programs that need installation, wine asks to run regedit and configure winedefault.reg or tells something about missing oles in elf (or something like that, cant check now). Debugger is set to be winedbg but it says
fixme:console:SetConsoleCtrlHandler (0x404cc0a0,1) - no error checking or testing yet
i`m totally noobie (2days) so if somebody could help me a bit...

Using Wine development builds is not recommended if you aren't a developer and happy mucking about with dev tools/registry settings.

If you're an end user, you should use CodeWeavers CrossOver which is commercial (about $40-$50 i think) and I can tell you from experience it's a lot less painful. If you're just interested in trying Wine, then be prepared to learn a lot, and probably get frustrated. Wine does work well, but you need CrossOver to do some extremely non-obvious setup. You're unlikely to get good answers here by the way, Wine dev builds setup is a black art, try reading the manual on winehq.org if you still want to go ahead.

As I said, if you actually have a windows app you need to use, get CrossOver, it's definately worth it.

it's only ever newbies that seem to run wine. not to put a dampender on things but wine is NOT a solution everything. personally i enver founf it a solutino to ANYTHING. take a little more time and you'll find native replacements for most apps you're used to under windows. remember you're (probably) here to try to get away from windows....

Not actually getting away from windows but i´m planning to do everything else than gaming in mdk when i get more comfrotable with it.
Just downloading that Crossovers demo, have you used it with Dreamweaver6 and Photoshop7? cause they´re the software i should run, maybe there is as good linux soft for that, but i´m used to them... otherwise the mdk package included all i needed.

As for Photoshop: most things you can do in the Gimp. It's a great program and it's free! Dreamweaver I never had any use for, but try Bluefish for building webpages if that's what you're into.

Dreamweaver MX has been successfully run under Wine, though you should be aware that programs usually work differently when under Wine than Windows (some things are better, some things are worse). In particular, you may find it looks a little odd in places, and it can be unstable (when the app hits a part of Wine that's unfinished/buggy).

Wine is still in alpha, you have been warned. Unless you actually desperately need something like CYMK colourspace the Gimp will do all you need. It's not as good as Photoshop, but it is free.

I believe Photoshop does not currently work correctly under Wine, but feel free to try it. If you're going to try apps like DreamWeaver or Photoshop, get CrossOver, it will save you a lot of hassle.

I use CrossOver/Wine all the time at work - it's simply not true that there are always native alternatives available. In particular I do web development sometimes, which of course has to work in IE, so I run Moz on one desktop, IE on another and emacs in the middle; it works rather well. Wine is also very useful for when you already own Windows software (legally) that is superior to the free equivalents. Of course some will claim you should always prefer free software over non-free, but I only get religious over that when it comes to platforms, art and design apps are hardly criticial freedom wise.

True, but I still have 100s of dollars invested in Windoze software that I would like to use that don't have a Linux counterpart. What I would like to crossover is my diabetes software, recipe-ware, quicken, etc...

The link between MS and Linux is Java, but it might also be through .net because of the Mono project. Middleware is the future! Woooooo!
