Had no problems with apache, mysql or php with Mdk 9.2 isetup was a breeze but you'll also need to install php-mysql extension (I think that's it what it was called.

If you have not installed phpMyAdmin go to sourceforge and download the latest version.

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/p...r.gz?download.

Run phpmyadmin which will allow you to connect and setup mysql data base.

how do I tell Apache to start? I can't see it anywhere perhaps I have to run it from terminal?

Apache should be running by default.

Open your browser konqeror or mozilla and brouse to the IP or dns that you gave your PC, either from your network or your workstation.

You should get the apache installed OK page and documentation!

hello:

I did tell Instalation to set everything up but I discovered I had to install apache, sql and php all by my self.................. ok then.

I donwloaded Apache bin and compiled....... now I go to konqueror and type

localhost

and there it is, the ok screen.

Now I try to modify the httpd.conf and changue the documents root, I manage to open the file, modifiy it and save it.......... but nothing changues.... I still get the contents of httpdocs and apache dir.....

any idea? BTW I configured Mandrake to auto log on as my name, now I can't get it to log as root......... it just won't give me that option

Click on 'configure my computer' enter root password which opens the Mandrake Control Centre. Click on the Server Configuration icon, if its missing as mine was you'll have to install 'wizard' in software manager, exit MCC and update the menu in a terminal as root by

update -menus -v

Set up a folder as root in /var/www/ yourfolder I used file manager-superuser which has to be setup.

Then MCC again.

Assuming you have the Server config icon go to web wizard follow instructions and set up your new document root say:

/var/www/yourfolder

Bingo

Yes I'm currently using Apache 2.0 with the same type of setup as a learning experience, all in all the good people at mandrake really know how to put together a simple stable OS.
