About Live USB. Help!
 

Hey, i'm still on the learning stage on linux and im using a LIVE USB, however the wireless device of my laptop does not have a support from the distro im using. I have downloaded the necessary driver for it and when i make and make install i get the warning:

so i have to apt-get install linux-headers to be able to ln -s, but i still have no internet yet. I'm planning to run the live usb on the desktop first where wlan0 can be used.

Is it possible for me to apt-get install and then change/add the settings on the USB, so when i use it on the laptop i won't have to type get install linux-headers and just jump directly to creating symbolic links?

Problem with some live usb;s they are not real installs. Some core parts can't be changed and not very good for technical tasks.

I'd find some live cd that can find your nic and then see if you can make it into a live usb or real usb install.

Persistent...

You can make a USB flash drive installation that allows you to download and save any additions and changes that you want, as long as there is space on the USB. Try to google for linux USB persistent.

There are directions for making such a persistent USB out of many linux distributions. Since you seem to be using apt-get, you could try the Ubuntu live-cd or the the Mint live-dvd. Both have an easy way to do it automatically and both have a large user base where you might find help.

IMHO, use Xubuntu's built-in util. I'd be surprised if it does not detect the hardware correctly...

Tried it, works. You need a big enough stick, though...
