a slow work speed

my processor is 667MHz PIII and RAM 128. is this sufficient to run linux red hat 8.0 (psyche)?
i'm experiencing a slow work speed, even for simple works. is this coz i installed so many packages?
any suggestions?

Maybe the ram is an issue, but I suggest checking you arent running services you dont need, maybe for LANs or providing web services.

It should be enough. It depends on what you expect. Running programs like Mozilla and OpenOffice may seem like simple tasks but they are very memory intensive. Try running "top" or press Ctrl+Esc in graphical mode.

The speed of your HDD will also have an effect on performance.

You could try a slimmer distro like Vector or one that optimizes for your machine like Gentoo.

Add some more RAM, it's so cheap these days.
+128 should do fine.

I notice Redhat 8 is very sluggish compared to other distros. Knoppix and Yoper just scream on my machine. I also have Mandrake 9.1 installed and it is significantly faster than RH!

Try another distro......see if you get the same results.
