A simple router question.

Ok. I have a Conexant router I got from Dabs, and I'm trying to configure Linux to use it. Currently, by some whim of mine, I'm using Mandrake 9.1 which works nicely with the router. However, I'm hoping to move to Gentoo soon, but I haven't managed to get that all-important Internet connection. I run net-setup from the live-cd, and enter the IP address of the NIC as 10.0.0.5, the broadcast address as 10.255.255.255, the subnetmask as 255.0.0.0 and the gateway as 10.0.0.2 (the router). Should this work or am I missing something? I apologise for the messiness of this post, but it's late. I also use Ed's Debian on my Xbox, and it works with the router too. I suspect I'm missing a step. Help?

Your setup looks OK. Can you ping the router? Does ifconfig report a working interface with your 10.0.0.5 address? Does it report any errors on that interface? Are you sure your NIC and cable to the router are OK? There's lots of things this could be; we need more details.

I ended up using dhcpcd eth0 to configure it. Works nicely. I completely forgot about this thread. Thanks anyway!
